About Me

I am an Senior Principal Engineer at Ciena Corporation, where I work on high-speed optical network switching products.  I do general circuit pack development, though in past lifetimes I have been mainly an RF/Analog hardware developer.  I have experience in the cable, cellular, telecom, datacom, and even the medical industries.

I have a passion for electronics, and it follows me home.  I have a small electronics lab in a spare bedroom in my house, and I have software tools for RF synthesis and simulation, as well as schematic and printed circuit design.

In my spare time, I work out at the gym and try to find time to go cycling or caving.  I usually go on a major (one week or longer) bike tour each year -- and I help out with some of the advance trip research and map work for our cycling group.

Recently, a previous interest in brewing home-brew beer has been re-kindled, and I have started to do full-grain brewing.

My 15 minutes...

In July of 1992, I won the "RF Design Magazine" design software competition, and my picture appeared on the front cover of that magazine.

An article that I wrote for RF Design Magazine in 1994 is reproduced as an appendix in the book "Radio Receiver Design" by Robert C. Dixon -- published by Marcel Dekker in 1998.
